Top 10 Campsites in Spain
Spanish coastal camping has built a distinctive culture around large, well-equipped sites with pools, animations, and direct beach access — the camping village model at its most developed. The Costa Brava and Costa Dorada hold the highest concentration of quality sites in Spain; the Andalusian and Alicante coasts are more variable. The ten sites below are the reference points for each stretch of the Mediterranean and Atlantic coast.
1. Camping Las Dunas, Sant Pere Pescador, Catalonia
On the Gulf of Roses in the Alt Emporda, between the Emporda wetlands and the Mediterranean. One of the largest and most consistently five-star rated campsites in Spain, in the ACSI database and in the Spanish camping federation rankings. Electric pitches throughout, multiple pools, direct beach access, water sports hire, a full animation programme, and motorhome services. ACSI CampingCard accepted in low season. Book by February for July pitches.
2. Camping Vilanova Park, Vilanova i la Geltrú, Catalonia
South of Barcelona near Vilanova, this is the largest campsite on the Catalonian coast by facility count: aqua park, nine pools, sports facilities, beach, electric pitches, and a shopping complex within the site. Consistently among the top three campsites in Spain in ACSI and European camping guide rankings. The Barcelona connection by commuter rail is 45 minutes; the site operates as a resort destination in its own right.
3. Cala Llevadó, Tossa de Mar, Costa Brava
On the most scenic stretch of the Costa Brava between Blanes and Palamós, Cala Llevadó occupies a terraced hillside of umbrella pines above a series of private coves. One of the most photographed campsites in Spain. Electric pitches on terraces, a pool, a beach bar, and boat trips from the site's own dock. The site is small enough to retain a character that the larger Roses and Tarragona sites do not have. ACSI-listed.
4. Camping Sanguli Salou, Costa Dorada, Catalonia
At Salou, the campsite anchoring the Costa Dorada resort complex. A very large site with full facilities: pools, aqua park, beach, electric pitches, restaurant. The Port Aventura theme park is 3 km from the campsite — a feature or a disadvantage depending on your party. Consistently top-rated in the Guia Camping España.
5. Camping La Tordera, Malgrat de Mar, Catalonia
Between Barcelona and the Costa Brava at the mouth of the Tordera river. Four-star site with electric pitches, a pool, good sanitary facilities, and a direct beach access path. Well-positioned for day trips north along the Costa Brava coast and south toward Barcelona. ACSI CampingCard accepted.
6. Camping Pasqualet, Bruc, Catalonia (inland)
In the Montserrat mountain range near Bruc, this is the best-positioned campsite for the Montserrat monastery and the Catalan interior. Electric pitches in a pine setting, a pool, sanitary facilities to a good standard. A counterpoint to the coast-heavy list; the Montserrat massif provides climbing, hiking, and one of the most dramatic mountain monasteries in southern Europe.
7. Camping La Manga Club, Murcia
At the La Manga strip in the Mar Menor lagoon — the largest saltwater lagoon in Europe — with the warm, shallow lagoon on one side and the Mediterranean on the other. Electric pitches, a pool, good facilities. The lagoon is warm enough to swim from April; the consistent calm water makes it the best site in Spain for watersports access.
8. Camping Cabopino, Marbella, Andalusia
The best-positioned campsite on the Costa del Sol: on the dunes at Cabopino between Marbella and Fuengirola, near the Puerto Cabopino marina. Electric pitches in pine forest, a pool, sanitary facilities, and direct beach access through the dune system. The site maintains a naturalness — the pine forest, the dunes, the distance from the Marbella resort strip — that distinguishes it from more urban Costa del Sol options. ACSI-listed.
9. Camping Los Castillos, Arteta, Navarra (inland)
In the Pyrenean foothills of Navarra, between Pamplona and the French border. A smaller site with electric pitches, good sanitary facilities, and a pool in a valley setting. The Camino de Santiago Francés passes near Pamplona; this is a practical base for the Navarra walking stages. Quieter and less resort-oriented than the coastal sites.
10. Camping Sopalmo, Mojacar, Almería
On the Almería coast, one of the few genuinely sunny winter camping options in mainland Spain: the Almería microclimate gives 3,000 hours of annual sunshine. Electric pitches, a pool, a sanitary block, and a position between the Cabo de Gata natural park and the Mojacar village. ACSI CampingCard accepted. The Cabo de Gata volcanic coast is the least developed natural coastline in Spain.
Mediterranean coast camping culture
Spanish coastal campsites operate at near-full capacity in July and August and at much reduced levels outside school holidays. The ACSI CampingCard offers the best low-season rates — typically April to June and September to October — which also happen to be the best months to visit in terms of weather and crowd levels. The Guia Camping España (published by the Real Automovil Club de España) is the national reference for site listings and ratings.
