Top 10 Campsites in the Netherlands
The Netherlands has one of the highest campsite densities in Europe and one of the most demanding campsite-rating cultures. The ANWB (Dutch motoring and outdoor organisation) publishes an annual Best Campsite listing that carries significant weight in the Dutch market; a site appearing in this list reliably signals above-average facilities and grounds maintenance. These ten sites anchor the ANWB and ACSI top ratings across the country.
1. Camping Duinrell, Wassenaar, South Holland
Adjacent to the Duinrell theme park in the Wassenaar dunes south of The Hague, Camping Duinrell is the most commercially complete campsite in the Netherlands: fully electric pitches, a large indoor and outdoor water park (the Tikibad), full sanitary facilities, a supermarket, and restaurant. ACSI CampingCard accepted in low season. The site is heavily family-oriented and operates year-round. The dunes behind provide cycling and walking without needing to leave the complex.
2. De Krim, Texel, North Holland
On the island of Texel, the most accessible of the Wadden Sea islands, De Krim is one of the largest and most comprehensive holiday parks in the Netherlands. Electric pitches throughout, indoor pool, sanitary facilities to a high standard, and direct access to the Texel beach and dune nature reserve. The Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage area is visible across the tidal flats. ANWB Best Campsite listed. The ferry from Den Helder runs every 20 minutes; cars are accepted.
3. Camping Bakkum, Castricum aan Zee, North Holland
In the national park dunes between Castricum and Egmond, Camping Bakkum is a large site with electric pitches, good sanitary facilities, and direct cycle path access to the coast. The dune landscape here — consolidated dunes with forest and wetland — is the best in the North Holland coastal strip. ACSI-listed with CampingCard rates in low season.
4. RCN De Flaasbloem, Noord-Brabant
In the heathland and pine forest of Noord-Brabant, near Bergen op Zoom. Part of the RCN chain, which operates nine sites in the Netherlands and Belgium with a consistent high facilities standard. Electric pitches, an indoor pool, full sanitary block with private cabins, and a well-run reception. The site is well-placed for the Zeeland coast and the Biesbosch freshwater tidal park.
5. Camping de Paal, Beerse, Belgium (near Dutch border)
Just over the Belgian border from Breda, De Paal holds multiple ANWB and Camping Gids top ratings and is included in Dutch camping guide recommendations. Large forested site with electric pitches, an outdoor pool, a good sanitary block, and a children's activity programme. Close enough to the Dutch network to function as part of a Netherlands circuit.
6. Camping Hertshoorn, Nunspeet, Gelderland
On the Veluwe — the largest continuous nature area in the Netherlands — near Nunspeet. Electric pitches in forest, a good sanitary block, cycling trail access directly from the site. The Veluwe is the best inland landscape in the Netherlands: pine forest, heathland, drift sands, and the Hoge Veluwe National Park with the Kroller-Muller Museum (Van Goghs in a forest setting). ACSI-listed.
7. Vakantiepark Bospark De Schaijksche Heide, Noord-Brabant
In the Schaijk heathland near Oss, a well-rated holiday park with electric pitches, an outdoor pool, sanitary facilities, and forest cycling access. Consistently appears in ANWB regional campsite rankings for Noord-Brabant. Quieter and less resort-like than the coastal sites; suited to campers who want a forest base.
8. Camping Vreehorst, Winterswijk, Gelderland
In the Achterhoek landscape near the German border, Vreehorst is a small to mid-size site with a strong rating for naturalness of setting and facilities standard. Electric pitches, good sanitary facilities, and a swimming lake. The Winterswijk area has some of the most diverse agricultural landscape in the Netherlands — a patchwork of small fields, hedgerows, and woodlands that is unusual in a country of large-scale farming.
9. Camping De Kleine Wolf, Voorthuizen, Gelderland
In the Veluwe near Barneveld, a family-oriented site with electric pitches, a pool, a sanitary block with family bathrooms, and direct forest cycling access. ANWB Best Campsite listed. The Veluwe location makes it interchangeable with Hertshoorn depending on the specific part of the national park you want to base yourself near.
10. Camping Lauwersoog, Groningen
At the Lauwersoog harbour on the Waddenzee coast, the departure point for the Schiermonnikoog ferry. Electric pitches, a good sanitary block, and direct access to the tidal mudflats of the Lauwersmeer national park. This is the least resort-like of the ten and the most oriented toward the Wadden coast wildlife experience: migrating waders, grey seals on the Waddenzee islands, and the widest skies in the Netherlands.
ANWB Best Campsites
The ANWB Beste Camping listing is published annually in the Kampeer & Caravaning guide and updated online. It rates sites on facilities, maintenance, naturalness, and overall experience. A site listed in this ranking is a reliable minimum standard indicator in the Dutch market. The ACSI CampingCard is widely accepted at Dutch sites and offers the best low-season pricing across the network.
